What does American Heart University (AHU) offer?
We offer a wide range of programs. All programs are aligned with American Heart Association business and mission goals. The AHU utilizes a unique virtual learning environment. Online courses are available 24/7 for you to learn anywhere, anytime!
Is AHU a "real" University?
The AHU is not an academically accredited program or institution. However for staff, AHU does give internal credits for course completion that count toward various internal certificates. Some AHU courses offer continuing educational credits. Skillsoft online courses qualifying for CEU credit are notated. Future relationships with institutions of higher learning will be established for those AHA employees wishing to continue their formal education.
Where do the courses take place?
Online courses take place on your computer and anywhere that you can access the AHU website. Some staff courses take place in actual classrooms in various American Heart University campuses across the nation so carefully check the course location when enrolling.
What's an online course?
An online course has a few things in common with a traditional correspondence course, in that it can be completed at your own pace, at any time of the day, from anywhere in the world. You will take your courses through the secure, password-protected AHU learning management system.
Can I access AHU from home on the Internet?

How much does it cost?
Online courses at AHU are free of charge to staff and select volunteers.
How much time do I get to complete a course?
Online courses will indicate the approximate time required to complete the course. For staff, workshops will list specific hours. Staff supervisors may provide a date by which required courses should be completed.
Who are the instructors? Are they the Faculty members?
AHU utilizes certified Faculty in each area to develop and teach courses to AHA staff. You may view our current Faculty biographies on the AHU website under the "University Leadership" tab. In addition, we may contract with outside vendors to teach specific topics to AHA staff.
How do I ask the University Staff or Faculty a question?
You may email them directly by name or click the "contact university" button on any page and we will ensure that your question is answered. For registration contact x1184 or AHU@heart.org.
Are there exams?
Assignments are designed for your benefit to enhance your learning. Many courses will have some sort of assessment (exam or activity) to measure learning. This can be used to identify areas of opportunity.
What will be the minimum score to successfully complete a course?
The minimum score will usually be 80% or as determined by the School of Learning Dean and the Faculty.
How do you protect my privacy?
The AHU ensures the privacy and security of its students and faculty. Your information will not be released to any outside party without your consent. This site may contain links to other sites - all AHA vendor sites have signed confidentiality agreements. However, if there's a non-vendor link, AHA is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites.
What is my login information (staff)?
If it is your first time logging in, both your username and password will be your six-digit employee ID number.
What is my login information (volunteers)?
For volunteers, you username and password will both be your email address.
