Nancy A. Brown,  Chief Executive Officer

Nancy Brown serves as Chief Executive Officer of the American Heart Association.  She leads the AHA’s integrated strategy to achieve its 2020 Impact Goal to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 20 percent by 2020.   


Since 1986, Nancy has worked with the American Heart Association in a variety of roles. She has served positions in its Michigan Affiliate including Metro Detroit Executive Director, and been Executive Vice President for the Massachusetts Affiliate, Executive Vice President for the New England Affiliate, Executive Vice President for Science Operations at the National Center, and Chief Opperating Officer for the AHA. 


As CEO for the AHA, Nancy oversees the association’s functions in:  Advocacy (including Federal Advocacy, Grassroots, Policy, State & Local Advocacy and Public Health), Communications and Health Outreach (including Corporate and Media Relations, Cause Communications, Cultural Health Initiatives, Field Health Initiatives, Consumer Publications, Internal Communications, Food Certification, Field Health Initiatives Consulting) HealthCare Markets (including American Stroke Association, Quality Improvement Initiatives, Patient Education, Strategic Alliances, Health Information Technology and Professional Education), Science (including Science and Medicine, Scientific Sessions, Scientific Publishing, Research, Professional Membership Program, and Science Marketing), Corporate Operations (including Finance, Internal Audit, Production & Distribution), Technology and Customer Strategies (including Information Technology, Customer Solutions, Marketing Research, Service Center), Strategic Planning, Human Resources, and Cause Initiatives and Integrated Marketing. 


Prior to joining the AHA, Nancy served as Director of Development/ Deputy Director of the Endowment Campaign for the Michigan Cancer Foundation, and as Special Events Director for Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit.
